WEDDING INVITATION WORDING
Now that you have chosen your invitation design, it's time to think about what to include and your invitation wording. It is both my personal opinion as well as my 10 plus years experience as a wedding and event stationer, that the most important thing is that your invitation design and wording are complimentary and represent you as a couple....your invitations are the first glimpse your guests will have of your special day to come.
Necessary information to include on your invitations...
1/ Who is hosting the wedding?
This could be the bride’s parents, the couples parents, or the couple themselves (and so on). Including the names of both sets of parents as hosts is a gracious option no matter who pays for the wedding. Also, more and more couples these days are hosting their own weddings, or do so together with their parents.
ie. Together with their parents, Nicole and Joel request the pleasure of your company at their wedding...
2/ The invitation line / request to attend

"the pleasure of your company"
"at the marriage of their children"
"would love for you to join them"
"invite you to celebrate with them"
"honour of your presence"

3/ Your names
Traditionally, the name of the bride always precedes the groom's name. This of course, is totally up to you and in this day and age is definitely not set in concrete!
4/ The date and time
4/ The date and time
5/ The ceremony location
6/ The reception location
Including time and location if this varies from the ceremony.
7/ Dress Code
If you don't include details on the attire expected, the invitation itself will indicate the dress code ie. a traditional style of invitation will dictate a more formal, black-tie occasion whereas a bold, bright and modern invitation with less formal wording will indicate a more casual, fun dress code.
The dress code can also be included on a separate Details Card.

Optional information to include on your invitations...
The following details can either be expressed in separate cards or can be included on your invitations themselves if you are not wanting to include or do not have the budget for a separate RSVP or Details card.

RSVP
Traditionally, a separate RSVP card is included for your guests to return by mail with their handwritten response, however for less "traditional" weddings it has become more common to include a basic, single line of text on the invitation itself requesting RSVP's be returned by email, phone or via the couples wedding website.

** If you wish to request information on your dietary requirements, include details of a wishing well / a note on gifts, or include information on accommodation, travel etc. I highly recommend including a Details Card with your invitations so as not to clutter your invitation with too much information...
